Got a problem, a goal, a cool idea? James Beshara can get you a little “tilt” to make things happen. Beshara, a 26-year-old-Dallas native, is the co-creator of Crowdtilt.com, an online group funding site that allows people to pool resources for everything from party buses and wedding gifts to community gardens and neighborhood pothole repair. “Group funding allows people with an idea, to leverage resources in a new way,” says this Highland Park High School graduate. “It’s where Facebook meets PayPal.”
Brian Gonzales Plays Good Football
Brian Gonzales loves sports. In fact, he loves sports so much that he’s traveled the world encouraging some of the most disadvantaged and disenfranchised people on the planet to step outside and make the world a better place simply by kicking around a soccer ball.
Generation Next: Affecting the World
When Highland Park High School graduate Trip Edwards stepped off the airplane in China, he expected to be met by the company that had set up his home study abroad program. But no one was there. Having traveled internationally as a University of Colorado student, Edwards did not fret. But he did not speak Chinese, and he knew no one in the country. He found a hostel and made some new friends until he connected with the family. “For me, it was an adventure,” he said.
Preserving a Classic Neighborhood
Keeping up appearances often gets harder with age. Yet the seven homes to be featured on the Park Cities Historic and Preservation Society Home Tour, Saturday April 14, look as fresh as they did 50-100 years ago. The Preservation Society is on a mission to preserve, protect and promote the historic, cultural and aesthetic attributes and traditions of the Park Cities.
It’s fitting then that Ray Washburne co-owner of the landmark Highland Park Village would be the keynote speaker at the group’s Distinguished Speaker Luncheon. The April 13th event marks the kickoff of the 10th Annual Home Tour, which will be held the following day and will feature seven historic and architecturally significant homes in the Park Cities.
Dallas Summer Musicals Helps Dallas Youth
Imagine if the first time you ever stepped into a theater to see a show, you were met with the mega-watt impact of a Broadway blockbuster such as Lion King, Wicked or Mamma Mia!
“The reaction is pure amazement,” says Michael Jenkins, President and Managing Director of Dallas Summer Musicals. “Some of these kids have never even been to a movie. You can just see a world of possibilities opening up before them.”
